Le Bonheur Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Nestled between the Simonsberg Mountains and Klapmuts Hill, Le Bonheur Wine Estate has been producing wine since the late 1700s and remains one of Stellenbosch’s quietly consistent heritage estates. The vineyards benefit from decomposed granite soils, warm daytime conditions and cooling mountain influences that help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen fully while retaining structure and freshness.
Cabernet Sauvignon is regarded as the flagship varietal of the estate, with the Le Bonheur Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 reflecting a more classic Stellenbosch expression rather than an overtly modern or heavily extracted style. Careful oak maturation adds structure and complexity while allowing the fruit and regional character to remain central.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a youthful garnet edge.
Nose:
Blackcurrant, cassis and dark cherry aromas lead the nose, followed by cedar wood, tobacco leaf and subtle roasted spice. Gentle earthy undertones add depth without overpowering the fruit.
Palate:
Full-bodied with firm but polished tannins supporting flavours of blackberry, plum and blackcurrant. Notes of cedar, cocoa and vanilla emerge through the mid-palate, while the acidity keeps the wine focused and balanced. The overall style is structured yet approachable, showing classic Stellenbosch Cabernet character.
Finish:
Long and savoury with lingering dark fruit, oak spice and a dry graphite-like finish.

Le Bonheur Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
- Food Pairing : The Le Bonheur Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 pairs naturally with robust, savoury dishes where the wine’s tannin structure and dark fruit can complement richer flavours. Roast lamb, flame-grilled ribeye, slow-cooked beef short ribs or a traditional South African braai all work particularly well. The cedar and tobacco notes also suit mature hard cheeses and mushroom-based dishes, while the wine’s freshness keeps heavier meals from feeling overly rich.
