Landskroon Wine Estate lies on the south-western slopes of Paarl Mountain, where warm growing conditions and the surrounding mountain landscape provide a distinctive setting for South African red wines. The estate has a long family history, with five generations of the De Villiers family contributing to its winemaking heritage. The Landskroon PDV Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 reflects the estate’s focus on varietal character and approachable, well-structured wines. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, then fermented in open tanks with regular punch-downs to extract colour and tannin from the skins. The wine matures for 15 months in older French and American oak barrels, allowing the fruit to develop alongside subtle cedar and spice notes without excessive oak influence.
Colour: Deep ruby red with garnet tones, showing the concentration typical of a mature Cabernet Sauvignon.
Nose: Dark berry aromas lead, with blackcurrant and ripe blackberry complemented by hints of cedarwood and warming spice. Subtle oak notes add savoury complexity while allowing the fruit to remain at the forefront.
Palate: Full-bodied and generous, with dark berry flavours supported by gentle cedar and spice. The tannins are soft and supple, giving the wine structure without excessive firmness, while its dry finish and fresh acidity help balance the richness of the fruit.
Finish: Smooth and lingering, with dark fruit, subtle oak and a gentle spicy note that leaves a savoury impression.

Try it with a perfectly grilled rib-eye or sirloin, slow-roasted beef, lamb chops or venison, where the tannins work with the protein and the dark fruit complements the savoury, caramelised flavours. It is equally at home alongside a mature cheese and charcuterie board, with the wine's cedar and spice notes adding another layer to savoury, aged flavours.
