Holden Manz Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Holden Manz Wine Estate sits at the southern end of the iconic Franschhoek Valley, where mountain winds, afternoon sun and diverse soils help produce intensely flavoured red wines. The estate focuses on meticulous viticulture and thoughtful winemaking under Thierry Haberer, balancing ripe fruit character with structural elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon at Holden Manz is handled with care - from cold soaking and natural fermentation to extended maturation in French oak barrels - to reveal both varietal expression and a clear sense of place.
Colour: Deep ruby-garnet with a slightly translucent edge, hinting at concentrated fruit and subtle age potential.
Nose: Intense and complex aromatics of blackcurrant (cassis), blackberry and ripe plum anchored by cedar, tobacco leaf and hints of clove-like spice. There’s a touch of forest floor and graphite that adds depth.
Palate: Full-bodied with a broad dark-fruit core that’s framed by firm but ripe tannins and balanced acidity. Flavours of black cherry, juicy blueberry and cassis are supported by oak-derived cedar, subtle vanilla and spice nuances. The texture is dense yet refined.
Finish: Long, savoury and dry, with lingering dark fruit, fine tannins and gentle wood tones that echo the wine’s structural intensity.

Holden Manz Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
- Food Pairing : Holden Manz Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 has the structure and fruit depth to match robust, flavour-forward dishes. A wood-grilled ribeye with herbed butter, smoky char and rich meatiness will harmonise with the wine’s ripe fruit and tannin backbone. Roast lamb with rosemary and red wine jus highlights the savoury and dark-fruit elements, while a classic beef bourguignon brings out both intensity and mid-palate complexity. For a South African twist, try it with game cuts such as springbok loin with a berry reduction - the acidity and tannins help cut through richer flavours while reinforcing the wine’s bold profile.
- Drink before: Enjoy now through approximately 2030 when stored in good conditions; further complexity can develop over medium term.
