Ernie Els Major Series Cab Sauv 2022 (Diners)
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Ernie Els Wines is rooted in the Helderberg foothills of Stellenbosch, where the warm, north-facing slopes and well-drained Hutton and Clovelly soils yield Cabernet with depth and purity. Named after the celebrated South African golfer and co-founder of the estate, the Major Series Cabernet Sauvignon is a flagship expression focused on varietal clarity and structure. Hand-picked fruit from carefully managed vineyards is fermented in small batches, some of which see extended maceration and maturation in French oak and even terracotta amphorae before blending, producing a wine with both richness and finesse that reflects the regionâs distinctive terroir.
Â
Colour: Deep ruby with violet edges, signalling youthful intensity.
Â
Nose: Rich aromas of blackcurrant and dark plum are lifted by peppery spice and savoury undertones of cedar, tobacco and subtle earthy complexity.
Â
Palate: Full-bodied and focussed, the palate delivers juicy cassis and pomegranate fruit framed by smooth, integrated tannins. Cedar and subtle vanilla oak spice add depth while vibrant acidity keeps the wine poised.
Â
Finish: Long and elegant with lingering dark fruit, savoury spice and a dry-fruited echo that carries through the finish.

Ernie Els Major Series Cab Sauv 2022 (Diners)
- Food Pairing : Ernie Els Major Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 pairs beautifully with robust, savoury dishes that mirror its structure and dark fruit complexity. Try it alongside a grilled ribeye or braai-seasoned lamb chops, where the tannins and acidity match the richness of the meat, or with a slow-roasted beef brisket served with rosemary jus - the wineâs cedar and spice notes echo herbal elements in the dish. For a contrasting but complementary pairing, a mushroom and red wine risotto brings out the wineâs savoury depth and fruit character.
