Description
De Meye Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 comes from the family owned De Meye Wines, situated in the Muldersvlei area along the Stellenbosch Wine Route. The Myburgh family has been farming this land for several generations, producing small-batch wines that focus on expressing the character of their vineyards rather than scale or volume.
All the grapes used by De Meye Wines are grown on the estate itself, allowing close attention to vineyard health and fruit quality. The warm Stellenbosch climate and well-drained soils are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, encouraging slow ripening and the development of concentrated dark fruit flavours.
For the 2020 vintage, grapes from mature vines were hand-harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks before spending around 18 months in French oak barrels, a combination of new and second-fill oak that adds structure and subtle spice to the finished wine.
Colour:
Deep garnet red with a dark, almost opaque core.
Nose:
Aromatic layers of dark cherry and plum lead the bouquet, followed by cassis, tobacco leaf and eucalyptus. Gentle notes of white pepper, nutmeg and savoury spice add complexity.
Palate:
Full-bodied with firm, structured tannins typical of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon. Flavours of blackberry, dark cherry and cassis unfold alongside hints of mocha and coffee from oak maturation.
Finish:
Long and structured, tapering into blackcurrant, cedar and fine drying tannins that suggest good ageing potential.
