Anura Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Anura Vineyards is situated on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountains in the Paarl wine region. Its varied soils, slopes and microclimates allow the estate to grow different grape varieties in conditions suited to their individual characteristics. Anura's winemaking philosophy combines the generous fruit associated with New World wines with the structure and complexity of more traditional European styles. The Anura Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, with a focus on ripe dark fruit and restrained oak influence. The grapes are hand-picked and mechanically sorted before undergoing a two-day cold maceration to encourage colour and flavour extraction. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures, followed by an extended period on the skins to develop structure. The wine then spends 16 months in older French oak barrels, allowing subtle spice and toasted character to develop without overshadowing the fruit.
Colour: Deep ruby red with a rich, youthful appearance.
Nose: Ripe blackcurrant and dark plum lead, accompanied by black cherry and subtle notes of cedar, spice and cigar box.
Palate: Full-bodied and fruit-driven, with concentrated blackcurrant and ripe plum flavours. Restrained French oak adds gentle toast and spice through the middle of the palate, while supple tannins provide structure without making the wine feel overly firm. The fruit remains central, giving this Cabernet Sauvignon an approachable style with a savoury edge.
Finish: Lingering and gently savoury, with dark berries, toasted spice and a subtle cigar-box note.
- Food Pairing : Anura Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 pairs naturally with grilled steak, roast lamb, venison or a slow-cooked beef stew. Its dark-fruit character complements the savoury flavours of grilled and roasted meat, while the tannins work well with protein-rich dishes. It is also a good match for mature cheddar or a rich tomato-based pasta with herbs, where the wine's gentle oak spice complements the dish without overwhelming it.
