Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
The Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is produced exclusively from vineyards on the historic L’Ormarins Estate in Franschhoek, where cooler mountain conditions and decomposed granite soils help shape Cabernet Sauvignon with precision and depth. The 2021 growing season was notably cool and extended, allowing for slower ripening, excellent flavour concentration and naturally balanced acidity.
Anthonij Rupert Wines has become known for combining modern cellar precision with a classical, age-worthy approach to winemaking. The fruit for this wine was hand-harvested, naturally fermented using wild yeasts and matured for 24 months in French oak barriques, followed by extended bottle ageing before release. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon that leans toward elegance and structure rather than sheer power, showing both immediate polish and strong long-term ageing potential.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a dense garnet core and youthful purple edge.
Nose:
Complex aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark plum are layered with cedar, tobacco leaf and earthy spice. Subtle violet perfume, graphite and cocoa powder add further detail and refinement.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet composed, with sleek dark berry fruit supported by fresh acidity and firm, finely structured tannins. Notes of cedar, tobacco and savoury herbs emerge through the palate, while the oak integration remains polished and restrained. The wine carries concentration without heaviness, maintaining clarity and energy throughout.
Finish:
Long, dry and structured, with lingering cassis, cedar spice and graphite notes carrying through the finish.

Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
- Food Pairing : The Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 pairs especially well with richly flavoured red meat dishes where its tannin structure and freshness can fully shine. Roast lamb, grilled ribeye or slow-cooked beef short rib all complement the wine’s cassis fruit and cedar spice beautifully. The savoury tobacco and graphite notes also work particularly well alongside venison, mushroom-based dishes and mature hard cheeses. Decanting before serving allows the wine’s layered aromatics and texture to open more fully, especially while still relatively youthful.
