Blaauwklippen Cabernet Franc 2024
Founded in 1682, Blaauwklippen is one of Stellenbosch’s historic wine estates, situated among the granite-rich slopes of the Stellenbosch Winelands. The region’s varied soils and Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and cooling maritime influences, provide favourable conditions for growing Cabernet Franc with ripe fruit character and savoury complexity. The Blaauwklippen Cabernet Franc 2024 comes from a single vineyard block planted in Tukulu soils, known for their good agricultural potential. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully handled to preserve their fruit character. Fermentation and extended maturation in French oak barrels help develop texture, spice and complexity while allowing the variety’s distinctive character to remain at the forefront. This is a Stellenbosch Cabernet Franc that brings together ripe dark fruit, floral notes and a savoury edge, supported by refined tannins and a fresh finish.
Colour: Deep ruby red with youthful purple hues, showing concentrated colour in the glass.
Nose: Aromas of dark cassis and ripe redcurrants lead, accompanied by fragrant violets and plush plum. As the wine opens, savoury notes of juicy tobacco, cedarwood and gentle spice add depth and complexity.
Palate: Full-bodied and textured, with layers of blackcurrant, redcurrant and plum supported by savoury tobacco and subtle oak spice. Velvety tannins give the wine a smooth yet structured feel, while fresh acidity brings definition and keeps the ripe fruit in balance.
Finish: Long and focused, with lingering dark fruit, cedarwood and a gentle savoury character. The finish is polished and composed, with enough structure to reward further cellaring.
- Food Pairing : The wine's ripe fruit, fresh acidity and velvety tannins make it particularly well suited to richly flavoured meat dishes. Try it with a rack of lamb, slow-roasted beef, venison, pepper-crusted steak or a hearty mushroom and herb dish. The Cabernet Franc's red and dark fruit complements caramelised and roasted flavours, while its savoury tobacco and cedar notes work particularly well with grilled meat and earthy ingredients. It is also substantial enough to accompany a traditional South African braai without overpowering the food.
