Steenenbrug takes its name from a historic stone bridge built in 1691 at the foot of Papegaaiberg in Stellenbosch. The bridge once served as an important gateway along the old wagon route between Cape Town and the settlement established by Simon van der Stel. Today, the name connects the wine with Stellenbosch's rich history and enduring winemaking heritage. The Steenenbrug Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 brings together two classic red varieties in a style that emphasises generous fruit and approachable texture. Merlot contributes softness, ripe plum and a rounded mouthfeel, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds darker fruit, structure and savoury depth. The result is a medium-bodied Stellenbosch red designed for easy enjoyment, with subtle spice and cedar notes adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
