Stellekaya is a boutique winery situated in the Blaauwklippen Valley within Stellenbosch's renowned Golden Triangle, an area celebrated for producing structured and age-worthy red wines. Founded in 1999, the estate focuses exclusively on premium red wine production, combining traditional cellar practices with meticulous vineyard management. The name Cape Cross draws inspiration from Gamma Crucis, one of the brightest stars in the Southern Cross constellation, a symbol that guided explorers around the Cape for centuries. The 2020 Cape Cross represents a modern Bordeaux-style blend, sourced from carefully selected Stellenbosch vineyards. Matured in French oak and crafted with a focus on balance rather than power, it reflects the estate's philosophy of producing elegant wines that express both fruit purity and regional character.
Colour: Deep garnet red with a dark, youthful core and vibrant ruby edge.
Nose: Aromatic layers of blackcurrant, plum and wild berries are complemented by cedar, graphite, subtle oak spice and hints of black liquorice.
Palate: Full-bodied and polished, showing generous dark berry fruit supported by integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Flavours of blackberry, plum, black tea and savoury spice unfold across the palate, while careful oak maturation contributes texture and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish: Long, dry and persistent, with lingering notes of dark fruit, cedar, graphite and fine tannins.
