Great Heart Swartland Red Blend 2022
Great Heart Wines was created as a staff-owned wine project connected to Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, giving employees direct ownership within one of the Cape’s most respected wine businesses. Produced from vineyards across the Swartland, the wines focus on authenticity, drinkability and honest regional expression.
The Great Heart Swartland Red Blend 2022 captures the warm, dry conditions and rugged character of the Swartland through a Rhône-inspired blend of Shiraz, Tinta Barocca, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. The vineyards are mostly dry-farmed bush vines grown on granite and schist soils, contributing concentration alongside freshness. Winemaking is deliberately restrained, with gentle extraction and older oak maturation allowing the fruit and savoury detail to remain the focus.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with youthful purple tones.
Nose:
Red cherry, plum and blackberry aromas lead the nose, followed by cracked black pepper, dried herbs and subtle earthy spice. There is a lifted floral note that adds freshness and energy.
Palate:
The Great Heart Swartland Red Blend 2022 is medium-bodied and vibrant, with juicy dark berry fruit supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. Shiraz brings spice and structure, while Cinsault softens the blend with red fruit brightness. Mourvèdre and Tinta Barocca add savoury depth and texture, creating a wine that feels generous without becoming heavy.
Finish:
Fresh and lingering, with notes of black fruit, spice and gentle smoky herbs carrying through the finish.
- Food Pairing : The approachable structure and savoury spice of Great Heart Swartland Red Blend 2022 make it a versatile food wine. It pairs especially well with flame-grilled lamb chops, boerewors, smoky barbecue chicken or slow-cooked beef dishes, where the ripe fruit and spice complement charred flavours beautifully. The freshness in the blend also works well with tomato-based pasta dishes and roasted Mediterranean vegetables, making it an easy fit for relaxed shared meals and weekend braais.
