De Meye Wine Estate is a small, family-run estate in the Banhoek Valley, where vineyards lie alongside the Eerste River beneath the dramatic Simonsberg mountains. The proximity to water and the moderating mountain influence help retain freshness and structure in the fruit, even in warmer vintages.
De Meye’s approach is intentionally hands-on and small scale. Grapes are harvested by hand, fermented in small batches and matured in French oak to build structure without overwhelming the fruit. The Little River Blend reflects this philosophy - a classic Bordeaux-style Stellenbosch red made with balance and drinkability in mind rather than sheer power.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a youthful crimson rim.
Nose:
Ripe blackcurrant and plum lead, followed by red cherry and subtle violet lift. Notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and a gentle herbal edge add savoury complexity.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with polished tannins and well-judged oak integration. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and dark fruit depth, Merlot brings roundness to the mid-palate, while Cabernet Franc adds freshness and aromatic detail. Acidity is bright, keeping the wine focused and food friendly.
Finish:
Persistent and savoury, tapering into cassis, spice and a faint graphite note.
