Anco Wines is a small South African producer founded by winemaker Janco de Kock, whose approach focuses on expressive blends that combine creativity with careful vineyard sourcing. The name “Spontaan” reflects the philosophy behind the wine - a natural, intuitive approach to blending that allows different Mediterranean varieties to complement each other.

The grapes for Anco Wines Spontaan 2023 are sourced from carefully selected Western Cape vineyards, with Syrah forming the backbone of the blend and Grenache contributing lifted fruit and brightness. Smaller components of Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante Bouschet add complexity, colour and savoury structure. The wine follows a Rhône-inspired style that prioritises fruit purity, balance and drinkability rather than heavy oak influence.

Nose:
Aromatic notes of blackberry, plum and dark cherry lead the bouquet, followed by hints of violet, cracked black pepper and subtle dried herbs.

Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with layered dark fruit at the core. Syrah provides structure and spice, while Grenache brings juiciness and warmth. Fine tannins and balanced acidity give the wine energy and approachability, with subtle savoury complexity developing across the palate.

Finish:
Long and fresh, with lingering dark berry fruit, gentle spice and a soft herbal lift.
