La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
La Motte is a historic Franschhoek estate, known for its calm, classical approach to Cape wine. While home is the Franschhoek Valley, La Motte works with carefully selected vineyards across the Western Cape to capture Cabernet Sauvignon with both ripeness and structure. The style leans on clear fruit, measured use of oak, and a focus on balance rather than sheer power. Grapes are picked for freshness as much as flavour, and oak is used to bring shape, fine tannin, and gentle spice, rather than obvious woodiness. La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon reflects a modern Cape interpretation of a traditional variety: structured enough to age, but polished and approachable at the table.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a youthful purple rim, showing concentration and a young, energetic Cabernet.
Nose:
Blackcurrant and black cherry sit at the core, with notes of plum and a touch of redcurrant brightness. Subtle cedar, pencil shavings and dried herbs add a more classical, leafy complexity, supported by hints of tobacco and gentle baking spice from oak maturation.
Palate:
Medium to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and a focused, linear feel. The palate offers cassis, dark plum and blackberry, layered with savoury notes of graphite, herbs and a touch of cocoa. Fresh, well-judged acidity keeps the wine lively and food-friendly, cutting through richness without feeling sharp. Oak is integrated, adding structure and spice rather than dominating the fruit. The overall impression is of a composed, age-worthy Cabernet that already drinks well with a bit of air.
Finish:
Long and dry with lingering blackcurrant, gentle savoury notes and a clean, lightly spicy tail.

La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
- Food Pairing : La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 has the structure and freshness to handle richer, protein-driven dishes. It is an excellent match for braaied steak, lamb chops or a beef rib-eye, where the firm tannins and black fruit cut through fat and echo the char from the coals. Slow-cooked beef stew, oxtail, or a tomato-rich lamb neck potjie will pick up the wine’s savoury and herbal notes. For mid-week meals, try it with meaty pasta sauces, mushroom and thyme risotto, or a well-seasoned burger. It also works nicely with mature hard cheeses like Cheddar or Boerenkaas, where the wine’s structure and dark fruit balance the salt and richness of the cheese.
