Braeval Distillery is tucked away in the Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands, an area renowned for its single malt whiskies and long tradition of distilling. Originally opened as Braes of Glenlivet in 1973, the distillery adopted the name Braeval in 1994. Its relatively low profile among single malt enthusiasts reflects its historical role in supplying whisky for blended Scotch, making independently bottled expressions an interesting discovery for curious drinkers. This 13-year-old Braeval Single Malt Scotch Whisky offers an opportunity to explore the softer, fruit-led side of Speyside whisky. The standard expression is described with notes of dried fruit, sweet malt and warming spice, creating a style suited to sipping slowly and appreciating how oak maturation develops flavour over time.
Colour: Golden amber, with warm honeyed tones.
Nose: Sweet malt and dried fruit lead, with notes of raisins, figs and fruitcake. A gentle sweetness brings to mind honey and caramel, while hints of citrus peel add freshness.
Palate: Smooth and approachable, with flavours of malt biscuits, dried figs and fruitcake. Ginger spice adds warmth, while a subtle sweetness rounds out the palate. The character is fruit-led, with a comforting balance of malt and spice.
