Kanonkop Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s most respected names in red wine, based on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg mountain in Stellenbosch. The estate has played a leading role in building the reputation of Pinotage, combining traditional cellar methods with careful vineyard management and a strong sense of place. Warm days, cooling maritime influence and decomposed granite soils help produce grapes with ripe fruit character while retaining freshness and structure.
The Kadette range offers a more approachable expression of the Kanonkop style, while still reflecting the quality and consistency the estate is known for. For the 2024 vintage, the wine was fermented in open-top concrete tanks and matured for 12 months in older French oak barrels, adding texture and complexity without dominating the fruit.
Colour:
Deep purple-red in the glass with a youthful, vibrant rim.
Nose:
Bright aromas of cherries, red and black plums lead the way, followed by cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of cedar spice.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with juicy fruit at the core. Flavours of black plum, cherry and a hint of liquorice are supported by fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity. Plush enough to satisfy, yet fresh enough to stay lively.
Finish:
Long, clean and gently savoury, with lingering dark fruit and spice.
