Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2023
Ernie Els Wines is situated on the slopes of the Helderberg in Stellenbosch, where vineyard elevations, granite-based soils and cooling False Bay breezes help produce wines with concentration and freshness. Founded by golfing legend Ernie Els and guided by winemaker Louis Strydom, the estate has become known for polished reds that balance power with refinement.
The Big Easy range takes its name from Ernie Els’ famous nickname and offers a more approachable expression of the estate style. While made for earlier enjoyment, these wines still reflect serious vineyard sourcing and thoughtful cellar work. The Big Easy Red Blend 2023 was matured for around 14 months in French and American oak, adding texture and spice while preserving the fruit-forward appeal that defines the range.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with a youthful crimson edge.
Nose:
Aromas of red and black berries, plum and cherry are layered with vanilla, warm spice, cedar and a hint of dried herbs.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, smooth and generous, with flavours of cassis, black cherry and ripe plum. Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, Shiraz adds spice and richness, while the smaller components bring softness and detail. Tannins are supple and well-managed, making for confident but easy drinking.
Finish:
Long, polished and savoury, with lingering dark fruit and gentle oak spice.
- Food Pairing : Ernie Els Big Easy Red Blend 2023 is ideal with hearty, flavour-driven dishes such as sirloin steak, lamb chops, beef burgers or sticky braai ribs. The ripe fruit and soft tannins complement grilled meats beautifully, while the freshness keeps richer dishes balanced. It also works well with tomato-based pasta, roast vegetables or mature cheddar, making it a versatile red for casual entertaining or weekend dinners.
