Klein Welmoed Wine & Olive Estate is situated in the Stellenbosch region, where warm days are balanced by cooling maritime influences from nearby False Bay. This moderating climate allows grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and structure. The surrounding soils, including the area’s well-known koffieklip, help produce wines with depth and refinement. Klein Welmoed combines careful vineyard management with a practical, quality-focused cellar philosophy, using oak maturation where it adds complexity and texture. Colour:
Deep ruby red with a dark crimson edge.
Nose:
Blackberry, ripe plum and black cherry aromas lead, followed by cracked black pepper, sweet spice, espresso and dark chocolate notes.
Palate:
Full-bodied and smooth, with generous dark berry fruit at the centre. Fine tannins give structure without aggression, while balanced acidity keeps the wine fresh and composed. Subtle oak adds layers of cocoa, cedar and savoury depth.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering dark fruit, spice and roasted coffee bean character.
