Alexander Vineyards Megan 2023
Alexander Vineyards, perched where Atlantic breezes and decomposed granite soils shape true cool-climate wines, crafts Megan as part of its flagship Legacy Collection - a personal homage to the founder’s daughter and a statement of place. On the Cape Peninsula’s unique terroir, this Cabernet Sauvignon–Merlot blend is nurtured with respect for vineyard detail, minimal intervention fermentations and measured oak maturation that let structure and purity guide the wine’s evolution. The estate’s philosophy emphasises clarity and depth - each bottle feels rooted in soil, sea air and thoughtful craftsmanship.
Colour: Deep ruby-garnet with a luminous edge that hints at elegance and concentration.
Nose: Aromas open with cassis and black cherry, layered with graphite, dried herbs and a gentle cedar spice from French oak ageing - inviting without heaviness.
Palate: Medium-to-full with layered dark fruit - blackcurrant, plum and a touch of blueberry - framed by firm yet refined tannins and balanced acidity. Notes of tobacco leaf and subtle earth add depth, making the wine both expressive and poised.
Finish: The finish is dry and structured, lingering with savoury spice, dark fruit persistence and fine oak tannin that beckon another sip.
- Food Pairing : Alexander Vineyards Megan 2023 suits dishes that mirror its structured fruit and savoury complexity. Braised short ribs with rosemary and red wine jus highlight the wine’s depth, while a slow-roasted lamb shoulder echoes its earthy and berry character. A chargrilled ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce or a rich mushroom-risotto also works beautifully here - the wine’s acidity and tannin frame the richness and bring out the nuanced layers of flavour.
- Drink before: Enjoy now through 2030 with decanting recommended early, or cellar for medium-term development of tertiary notes.
