Arendskloof Shiraz 2021 (Diners)
Arendskloof is produced by Eagle’s Cliff Wines, located near Worcester in the Breede River Valley. This inland wine region experiences warm, dry summers and cool winter rainfall, creating ideal conditions for ripening robust red varieties such as Shiraz. The warm climate encourages full flavour development, while vineyard management focuses on maintaining balance and freshness in the fruit.
The Arendskloof range reflects a practical, fruit-driven approach to winemaking that highlights the natural character of the grapes. For the Arendskloof Shiraz 2021, carefully selected fruit is fermented and matured in oak to build structure and depth while preserving the variety’s signature spice and dark fruit character. The result is a bold but approachable Shiraz that reflects the warmth and generosity typical of the Breede River Valley.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a dark purple core, showing good concentration in the glass.
Nose:
Rich aromas of plum, blackberry and dark cherry rise from the glass, supported by notes of black pepper, spice and a hint of dark chocolate.
Palate:
Full-bodied and generous, with flavours of black cherry and ripe plum layered with peppery spice. The tannins are firm yet integrated, giving the wine structure while maintaining a smooth texture.
Finish:
Lingering and warming, with dark fruit, gentle spice and subtle oak notes carrying through the finish.
- Food Pairing : The bold fruit and peppery spice of Arendskloof Shiraz 2021 make it well suited to hearty dishes. It pairs particularly well with grilled lamb chops or a classic South African braai, where the wine’s tannins help balance the richness of the meat. Slow-cooked beef stew or oxtail also works beautifully, echoing the wine’s dark fruit depth and savoury spice. For something simpler, try it with a pepper-crusted burger or mature cheddar, which complements the wine’s full-bodied style and warming finish.
