Leipzig Country House and Winery is situated in the Nuy Valley between Worcester and Robertson, a scenic pocket of the Breede Valley known for warm sunny days, cool evening temperatures and mountain-framed vineyards. These conditions encourage ripe fruit development while helping grapes retain freshness and structure. The estate combines long Cape farming heritage with a revived boutique winemaking focus. Leipzig has become known for small-batch wines that balance traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. Heimat SMV 2020 takes inspiration from classic Rhone blends, bringing together Shiraz, Mourvedre and a touch of Viognier for aromatic lift, savoury depth and generous fruit character. Colour: Deep ruby red with youthful brightness and a dark crimson core. Nose: Blackberry, plum and black cherry aromas lead the way, followed by cracked pepper, dried herbs, violet perfume and subtle earthy spice. Palate: Full-flavoured and layered, showing ripe dark berries, mulberry and plum with notes of spice and savoury complexity. Shiraz provides richness, Mourvedre adds structure, while Viognier contributes fragrance and softness. Tannins are smooth yet present, balanced by fresh acidity. Finish: Long and harmonious, finishing with dark fruit, pepper spice and a lingering savoury note.
