Wolfburn Langskip Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Description
Wolfburn Distillery, located in Thurso on Scotland’s far northern coast, is one of the country’s most northerly mainland distilleries. Revived in 2013 near the site of the original 19th-century Wolfburn distillery, the modern operation has quickly earned recognition for producing elegant, coastal-style whiskies with a strong focus on traditional methods and careful maturation.
Wolfburn Langskip takes its name from the Viking longships that once travelled the northern Scottish coastline. Matured predominantly in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at high strength, the whisky showcases the distillery’s signature balance of maritime freshness, malt sweetness and gentle spice. Non-chill filtered and natural in colour, it reflects a contemporary Highland style that values texture and clarity over heaviness.
Colour:
Bright gold with warm amber highlights.
Nose:
Fresh orchard fruit, honey and vanilla lead the aromas, followed by hints of sea breeze, toasted oak and soft citrus peel. Subtle floral notes and gentle spice emerge with time in the glass.
Palate:
Full-bodied and energetic, with flavours of caramel, baked apple and malted biscuit layered alongside pepper spice, oak and touches of salted toffee. Despite the higher alcohol strength, the texture remains smooth and controlled, with the coastal character adding freshness and lift.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering vanilla, oak spice and a subtle saline note carrying through the finish.

- Food Pairing : Wolfburn Langskip Single Malt Scotch Whisky pairs particularly well with smoked salmon, charcuterie and aged hard cheeses, where the whisky’s maritime freshness and spice complement savoury flavours beautifully. It also works well alongside sticky toffee pudding or apple tart, allowing the caramel and orchard fruit notes to shine. For a simpler serve, roasted almonds or dark chocolate with sea salt bring out the whisky’s balance of sweetness, oak and coastal character.
