Waterkloof Wines was purchased by UK wine merchant Paul Boutinot in 2003. It is a dramatically modern winery perched on the top of a hill (the Schapenberg) on the outer fringes of Stellenbosch and on the boundary of the Helderberg, looking out to False Bay. The Waterkloof Sauvignon Blanc 2023 is pure intensity with steeliness and minerality, showing great purity and elegance with a long persistent finish. From a single south facing vineyard block on the farm. One of our most exposed vineyards, the wind-blasted slopes of the Schaapenberg are one of the best sites for Sauvignon Blanc in South Africa, producing small crops of intensely flavoured berries. Fermented in older French oak, this white wine is nettley, tangy and zippy, with undertones of salt and umami and a core of lime and wet stones.
