Waterkloof Boreas 2020
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Waterkloof Wine Estate is perched high on the Schapenberg above Somerset West in Stellenbosch, overlooking False Bay. This dramatic site benefits from strong maritime winds and cooler growing conditions, helping grapes ripen slowly while retaining freshness, structure and aromatic detail. Waterkloof is known for its biodynamic farming, regenerative vineyard practices and minimal-intervention cellar philosophy, allowing each site to speak clearly through the wine. Boreas, named after the Greek god of the north wind, is one of the estate’s flagship red blends and is produced only in vintages and vineyard blocks deemed exceptional.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a garnet core.
Nose:
Redcurrant, plum and red cherry aromas lead, followed by cedar, pencil shavings, dried herbs, graphite and subtle spice.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with refined concentration and a polished texture. Cabernet Franc brings fragrance and lift, while Merlot adds supple fruit depth. Fine tannins frame the palate, supported by fresh acidity that keeps the wine poised and energetic. Notes of cassis, savoury herbs and gentle oak unfold with time in the glass.
Finish:
Long, elegant and layered, finishing with red berry fruit, cedar spice and a fine mineral edge.
