Waterkloof Beeskamp Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Perched high on the Schapenberg overlooking False Bay, Waterkloof has become one of the Cape’s leading advocates for regenerative and biodynamic farming. The estate’s elevated, ocean-facing vineyards are shaped by constant maritime winds, helping grapes ripen slowly while retaining freshness and natural balance.
The Beeskamp Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 reflects Waterkloof’s philosophy of working with nature rather than against it. The estate integrates livestock farming into its vineyard ecosystem, using Nguni cattle, goats and pigs to support soil health and biodiversity. In the cellar, intervention is deliberately restrained: hand-harvested fruit undergoes natural fermentation with wild yeasts before ageing in older French oak barrels to preserve vineyard character rather than emphasise oak. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon with freshness, detail and understated structure.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a bright garnet edge.
Nose:
Subtle red berries, blackcurrant and raspberry aromas are layered with sage, bay leaf, cedar spice and earthy undertones. Gentle notes of black olive and dark chocolate add complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with fresh acidity and fine, integrated tannins giving the wine a composed structure. Red and dark berry fruit sit alongside savoury herbal notes and a lightly earthy character, while restrained oak handling keeps the palate focused and energetic rather than heavy.
Finish:
Long, dry and quietly savoury, with lingering red fruit, graphite and soft spice.

- Food Pairing : The Waterkloof Beeskamp Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 pairs especially well with grilled and slow-cooked meats where the wine’s freshness and fine tannins can cut through richness without overpowering the dish. A well-marbled rump steak on the braai is a natural match, while roast lamb, beef brisket or mushroom-based dishes also work beautifully with the wine’s earthy and herbal notes. Its moderate weight and savoury profile make it versatile at the table, particularly with food that includes rosemary, thyme or smoky char from the grill.
