From the limestone-tinged foothills of Paarl, Vondeling Wines is a Cape producer that finds balance between classic Old-World nuance and expressive New World fruit. The Barrel Selection range is built on thoughtful vineyard sourcing and careful cellar work - here the Merlot grapes come from the vineyard known as the Spice Block, a steep, southwest-facing slope of primarily granite with gravel and clay that concentrates flavour and brings natural freshness to the wine. Hand harvesting, cold soaking, gentle open fermentation and 18 months in French oak barrels encourage depth without heaviness, showcasing both varietal character and site expression.
