Vergelegen Wine Estate, established in the heart of the Cape’s historic Stellenbosch region, has a long legacy of crafting premium wines that balance Old World structure with New World brightness. Vergelegen V sits at the apex of the estate’s vineyard hierarchy, drawing from meticulously tended blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc planted on a mix of well-drained Pinedene, Glenrosa, Clovelly and Hutton soils. Hand-sorted fruit undergoes careful fermentation and 18 months of French oak maturation to knit complexity and depth into the blend. The 2022 vintage - scarcer in production - reflects thoughtful vineyard selection and cellar craft, resulting in a wine of both power and poise.
Colour: Deep ruby with a youthful edge, suggesting concentration and ageability.
Nose: Aromas of ripe blackberries and dark plum rise first, intertwined with cedarwood, subtle tobacco and hints of cocoa nibs.
Palate: Full-bodied and layered, the palate mirrors the bouquet with lush dark fruit framed by fine, textured tannins. Integrated oak spice and a refreshing acidity keep the wine balanced while supporting the dense structure.
Finish: A smooth, lingering finish where dark fruit and refined spice echo long after the last sip.
