Van Loveren SLH Gewürztraminer 2024
Gewurztraminer
Description
Van Loveren is a long-established family estate in the Robertson Valley, inland from the Cape South Coast. Here, a combination of lime-rich soils, sunny days and cooling breezes from the Breede River corridor helps preserve natural acidity in aromatic whites like Gewürztraminer, even as grapes reach full flavour ripeness. The SLH range reflects a more site- and parcel-focused approach within the broader Van Loveren portfolio, with careful vineyard selection and attentive picking decisions. In the cellar, the aim is to keep Gewürztraminer’s perfumed character intact: cool fermentation, gentle handling and minimal oak, allowing the floral, spicy notes to sit on a clean, refreshing frame that suits both sipping and food.
Colour:
Pale lemon with a light green tinge, bright and youthful in the glass.
Nose:
Expressive aromas of lychee, rose petal and Turkish delight lead, followed by ripe pear, white peach and hints of ginger, citrus peel and spice.
Palate:
Light to medium bodied with a smooth, slightly oily texture typical of Gewürztraminer. The palate mirrors the nose: lychee, pear and stone fruit are lifted by floral notes and a touch of sweet spice. A gentle sweetness is balanced by fresh acidity, giving a plush but not cloying mouthfeel, and keeping the wine easy to drink on its own or with food.
Finish:
Medium in length, with lingering rose, lychee and a soft, spicy ginger note.

Van Loveren SLH Gewürztraminer 2024
- Food Pairing : Van Loveren SLH Gewürztraminer 2024 is particularly comfortable with lightly spicy and aromatic dishes. The wine’s gentle sweetness and perfume make it a strong partner for Cape Malay chicken curry, mildly spiced bobotie or Thai green curry, where the fruit and floral notes soften the heat and echo the aromatics. It also works well with pork belly glazed with Asian-style sauces, or braaied chicken with a slightly sweet basting. For a meat-free option, try butternut and coconut curry, mildly spiced chickpea dishes or a cheese platter featuring blue cheese and creamy brie – the wine’s richness and spice play neatly against salty, creamy flavours.
