Description
The Tulbagh CCM Red 2020 comes from Tulbagh Winery, a historic cooperative cellar established in 1906 in the fertile Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by the Winterhoek and Witzenberg mountain ranges. The valley’s unique geography creates a sheltered climate with warm days and cooler evenings, helping grapes develop full flavour while retaining structure.
The CCM range takes its name from the three classic Bordeaux varieties used in the blend - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. For the 2020 vintage, the wine was matured for around 18 months in French and American oak barrels, allowing the components to integrate while building depth and complexity.
The philosophy behind the wine is straightforward: produce a structured, approachable red that reflects the generosity of the Tulbagh region while remaining rooted in classic Bordeaux blending traditions.
Colour:
Deep ruby red with a dense core, showing some early garnet tones as the wine begins to develop.
Nose:
Aromatic layers of dark plum and blackcurrant lead the nose, followed by hints of dried prune, mint and subtle vanilla from oak maturation.
Palate:
Full-bodied with generous dark fruit flavours supported by soft, well-structured tannins. Notes of black cherry, plum and a touch of spice unfold across the palate, balanced by gentle oak influence.
Finish:
Lingering and smooth, with persistent dark fruit and a lightly savoury oak note.
