Situated on the upper slopes of the Simonsberg outside Stellenbosch, Tokara has become one of the Cape’s benchmark producers for polished, site-driven wines. The estate combines modern cellar precision with a strong focus on vineyard expression, sourcing fruit from carefully selected sites that benefit from altitude, decomposed granite soils and cooling maritime influence from False Bay.
The Tokara Shiraz 2022 blends Stellenbosch structure with the fresher, more aromatic character of Durbanville fruit. Hand-harvesting, partial whole-bunch fermentation and maturation in French oak barriques add texture and spice while preserving the wine’s natural brightness. The result is a Shiraz that feels contemporary and refined rather than heavy or overworked.

Deep dark cherry red with a bright ruby edge.
Nose:
Lifted aromas of red cherry, blackberry and plum unfold alongside cracked pepper, pink peppercorn, subtle spice and gentle oak toast.
Palate:
Juicy and expressive, with layers of wild berries, dark fruit and savoury spice carried by supple tannins and fresh acidity. The oak influence is restrained, giving the wine texture and warmth without dominating the fruit. There is an appealing freshness through the mid-palate that keeps the wine energetic and approachable.
Finish:
Dry, long and gently savoury, with lingering spice, plush tannins and notes of dark berries.
