Tamdhu 21 Yr
Whisky : Scottish
Description
Tamdhu Distillery sits on the banks of the River Spey in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region, an area internationally recognised for producing elegant, fruit-driven single malts. Since 1897, Tamdhu has focused on a singular approach to maturation: ageing its whisky exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks sourced from Jerez in southern Spain.
The Tamdhu 21-Year-Old represents the distillery’s oldest permanent core release to date and reflects a deliberate, patience-driven style of whisky production. Matured in a combination of American and European oak Oloroso casks, the whisky balances richness and spice with notable refinement. Non-chill filtered and bottled at natural colour, it is a whisky built around texture, depth and the layered complexity that extended sherry cask ageing can bring.
Colour:
Deep amber with polished copper highlights and excellent clarity.
Nose:
Rich aromas of sherried oak, sultanas, dark chocolate and velvety toffee lead initially, followed by orange peel, mocha, cinnamon spice and hints of marzipan and walnut.
Palate:
Full-bodied and layered, showing flavours of Christmas cake, sherry-soaked raisins, candied orange and milk chocolate. European oak spice adds structure, while the American oak influence softens the palate with sweeter vanilla and caramel tones. The texture is smooth and mouth-coating without becoming heavy.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering oak spice, dried fruit, dark chocolate and a gentle syrupy richness that slowly fades.

- Food Pairing : The Tamdhu 21 Year Old works particularly well after dinner alongside mature hard cheeses, dark chocolate desserts, pecan tart or roasted nuts where the whisky’s sherried richness and spice can echo savoury and sweet flavours alike. It also pairs naturally with smoked duck, venison or slow-cooked beef dishes, as the whisky’s oak structure and dried fruit depth stand up comfortably to richer textures and umami-driven flavours. For a simpler pairing, dried figs, dates and toasted almonds bring out the whisky’s softer fruit and nut characteristics beautifully.
