Taaibosch Le Chant Rouge 2020 (Diners)
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Taaibosch’s Le Chant project in the Polkadraai Hills brings together French winemaking heritage and South African terroir, under the ownership of the Oddo family. The vineyards sit on south- and south-west-facing slopes, exposed to steady cooling breezes from False Bay, which slow ripening and help preserve freshness and aromatic detail in the fruit.
Soils of decomposed granite and koffieklip contribute structure and minerality, while a commitment to organic farming encourages a more natural expression of site. Winemaking is deliberate but not heavy-handed: individual components are vinified separately before ageing in a combination of French oak barrels, foudre and concrete for around 24 months. The result is a blend that leans into elegance and balance rather than power - a composed, modern interpretation of a Cape Bordeaux-style wine.
Colour:
Bright ruby with a clear, youthful rim, showing moderate depth rather than density.
Nose:
Red berries and plum lead, layered with floral notes, dried herbs and a gentle savoury edge. Hints of tomato leaf, spice and subtle oak develop with time in the glass.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a supple, refined texture. Juicy red and black fruit sits alongside fresh acidity, giving the wine lift and energy. Tannins are fine and lightly grippy, supporting the structure without dominating, while the blend brings both fruit generosity and a savoury, slightly herbal complexity.
Finish:
Clean and persistent, tapering into notes of red fruit, spice and a gently savoury dryness.

Taaibosch Le Chant Rouge 2020 (Diners)
- Food Pairing : Taaibosch Le Chant Rouge 2020 is versatile at the table thanks to its medium body and fresh acidity. It works particularly well with roast lamb or herb-crusted rack, where the wine’s savoury and herbal notes echo the dish. Grilled beef burgers or a classic braai also suit its structure, with tannins softening against the protein. For something more relaxed, tomato-based pasta dishes or aubergine parmigiana complement the wine’s bright acidity and subtle tomato-leaf character, while its moderate weight keeps it from overwhelming lighter fare.
