Survivor Terroir Chardonnay 2022
Chardonnay
Description
Survivor Wines was founded with a clear intent: to showcase South Africa’s diverse vineyard sites through focused, site-driven wines. This Chardonnay draws from Elgin, where cool-climate conditions, elevation, and Bokkeveld shale soils allow for slow ripening and natural acidity - key to the wine’s precision and structure.
In late 2024, the Survivor brand entered a new phase when it was acquired by Van Loveren Family Vineyards, one of South Africa’s leading family-owned wine producers. This move brings greater scale, access to top vineyard sources across multiple regions, and a strengthened production and distribution network, while retaining the brand’s core focus on terroir expression.
Winemaker Pierre Wahl remains central to the range, ensuring stylistic continuity. In the cellar, the approach balances modern precision with subtle oak influence - fermentation in French oak, partial malolactic fermentation, and lees ageing all contribute texture without overshadowing the fruit. The result is a Chardonnay that reflects both place and careful, measured winemaking.
Colour:
Bright straw with a soft golden hue, reflecting both freshness and gentle oak ageing.
Nose:
Ripe pear and nectarine lead, followed by lemon zest and a touch of citrus blossom. Subtle notes of toasted almond and light oak spice sit quietly in the background.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a rounded, creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity. Stone fruit and citrus flavours carry through, supported by a fine oak framework that adds depth without heaviness. The wine shows restraint and structure rather than richness alone.
Finish:
Clean and persistent, with lingering citrus, a hint of nuttiness, and a lightly mineral edge.

Survivor Terroir Chardonnay 2022
- Food Pairing : Survivor Terroir Chardonnay 2022 pairs well with dishes that sit between freshness and richness. Grilled fish or roast chicken works effortlessly, as the wine’s acidity lifts the dish while its texture complements the protein. Creamy mushroom pasta or risotto highlights the subtle oak and lees character, while seafood like prawns or line fish with lemon butter mirrors the wine’s citrus profile. It’s a versatile option for everyday meals that lean slightly towards richness without being heavy.
