Survivor Cellar Master Series Reunion 2022
Blend : Red
Description
The Survivor Wines range, produced by Overhex Wines in Worcester, is rooted in a philosophy of terroir expression and South African identity. The wines pay tribute to the story of “Survivor”, a Nguni cow that famously escaped from a truck and found refuge in vineyard land - a symbol of resilience and character that continues to shape the brand’s identity. Under the guidance of Cellar Master Pierre Wahl, the Cellar Master Series explores specific vineyard sites and unconventional blends with a more focused, small-production approach. Van Loveren acquired of the Survivor brand and Overhex cellar in late 2024.
Reunion 2022 is particularly significant because it brings Pinotage back together with its parent cultivar, Pinot Noir, alongside Cinsault - effectively reuniting the family line that gave birth to South Africa’s signature grape. Fruit was sourced from multiple premium vineyard sites, including Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge for Pinot Noir, Swartland bush vines for Pinotage, and Darling for Cinsault. The long 2022 growing season allowed for excellent phenolic ripeness and freshness, while extended barrel maturation added structure and complexity without overshadowing the fruit.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with youthful clarity and a vibrant core.
Nose:
Lifted aromas of cherry, strawberry and red plum lead the nose, followed by hints of flint, cedar, spice and subtle earthy complexity.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with layered red berry fruit supported by velvety tannins and fresh acidity. The Pinot Noir contributes elegance and spice, Pinotage adds darker fruit and texture, while the Cinsault brings brightness and harmony to the blend. The wine remains polished and energetic rather than heavy.
Finish:
Long and savoury with lingering cherry, spice and gentle oak notes.

Survivor Cellar Master Series Reunion 2022
- Food Pairing : Survivor Cellar Master Series Reunion 2022 pairs beautifully with dishes that balance savoury richness and freshness. Mushroom risotto, grilled lamb chops with mint pesto, beef Wellington or duck breast all complement the wine’s layered red fruit and fine tannin structure particularly well. The Pinot Noir component keeps the wine elegant enough for lighter game and earthy dishes, while the Pinotage adds enough depth to handle smoky braai flavours and richer sauces.
