Strandveld Pofadderbos Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Strandveld Vineyards sits among the rugged coastal plains near Cape Agulhas and Elim, where Atlantic winds, maritime fog and rocky soils define a truly distinctive cool-climate terroir. The name Pofadderbos (“puff adder bush”) comes from the local sightings of these iconic snakes in the vineyard, but in the bottle it speaks to something far more inviting: terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc that’s expressive, richly textured and unmistakably South African. Cellar Master Conrad Vlok draws on decades of experience and careful viticulture to craft this wine with minimal intervention - fermented cool in stainless steel and often given time on lees to add palate weight without obscuring the varietal’s freshness. This single-vineyard wine exemplifies Strandveld’s philosophy of letting place lead, with the ocean-influenced winds and cool ripening shaping character that’s both pure and compelling.
Colour: Pale straw with bright, youthful hints of green - clean and inviting in the glass.
Nose: Pronounced aromas of passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus, layered with subtle blackcurrant leaf and fynbos herb complexity that signal Elim’s cool maritime influence.
Palate: Creamy yet crisp, the palate delivers lively citrus and tropical fruit framed by oyster shell minerality and vibrant natural acidity. There’s a pleasing fullness of texture that carries fruit and mineral notes in harmony without heaviness.
Finish: Long and refreshing, with lingering citrus zest, saline-tinged minerality and a touch of fynbos spice that reflect the site’s maritime character.

Strandveld Pofadderbos Sauvignon Blanc 2024
- Food Pairing : Strandveld Pofadderbos Sauvignon Blanc 2024 is a superb match for the freshness and finesse of seafood and lighter fare. Enjoy it with fresh oysters on the half shell or grilled lemon-dressed calamari - the wine’s crisp acidity and oyster-shell minerality meet briny seafood naturally. A sushi platter or sashimi works beautifully, too; the citrus-driven profile lifts and refreshes the palate between bites. For a slightly richer match, try goat’s cheese salad with asparagus and citrus vinaigrette, where the wine’s vibrant fruit and herbal threads echo the dish’s freshness and textural contrasts.
- Drink before: Enjoy now through to about 2027–2028; natural acidity and maritime freshness support short-term bottle development.
