The Stellenrust ArtiSons After 8 Shiraz 2020 forms part of the experimental ArtiSons range from Stellenrust, where small vineyard parcels and unconventional winemaking ideas are explored in greater depth. Produced from a tiny, isolated section of Bottelary vineyard planted alongside eucalyptus trees, the wine is designed to express the distinctive mint, spice and floral character that naturally develops in this site.
The fruit is harvested from only 0.2 hectares selected through detailed phenolic profiling to capture peak flavour intensity. A portion of whole-bunch fermentation adds freshness and aromatic lift, while maturation in French oak for 18 months contributes texture and structure without masking the vineyard character. The result is a Shiraz that balances Stellenbosch power with unusual freshness and savoury complexity.

Deep ruby with a dense purple-black core.
Nose:
Intense aromas of blueberry, blackberry and dark plum are layered with cracked black pepper, violet and unmistakable mint notes. Hints of eucalyptus, cocoa and subtle oak spice add further complexity.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet energetic, with concentrated dark fruit supported by bright acidity and firm but polished tannins. The mint-chocolate character that inspired the wine’s name sits alongside savoury spice, black olive and smoked meat notes, creating a layered and distinctive palate. Despite its richness, the wine retains freshness and lift throughout.
Finish:
Long and persistent, with lingering black pepper, mint, dark berries and savoury spice carrying through the finish.
