The Stellenbosch Reserve Vanderstel 2023 honours the Cape’s winemaking roots - even its name evokes Simon van der Stel, founder of Stellenbosch and an early champion of viticulture in South Africa. This Bordeaux-style red is crafted by Stellenbosch Reserve, a project rooted in the diverse terroirs of the region, drawing fruit from several vineyards across Simonsberg, Devon Valley and Heldeberg. These sites feature a mosaic of Tukulu, Clovelly, Hutton and Oakleaf soils, which, combined with South Africa’s Mediterranean-influenced climate, lend both structure and ripe fruit intensity. Winemaking combines thoughtful extraction and careful barrel ageing, allowing this blend to balance fruit richness with elegant tannins and seamless oak influence - a dependable expression of Stellenbosch’s classic red-blend tradition.
