Stellenbosch Reserve Cinsault 2023
Cinsaut
Description
Stellenbosch Reserve is a collaborative range produced by the team behind Rust en Vrede Estate, led by Jean Engelbrecht. While Rust en Vrede is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends, this project allows the team to explore a broader range of varieties and vineyard sites across Stellenbosch.
The Cinsault 2023 reflects a more contemporary, lighter approach to red winemaking. Fruit is sourced from carefully selected sites within Stellenbosch, where varying soils and microclimates contribute to both freshness and subtle complexity. In the cellar, the focus is on preserving aromatics and texture through gentle extraction and restrained oak use, resulting in a wine that prioritises finesse over power.
It’s a considered expression of Cinsault - one that balances Stellenbosch’s natural fruit depth with a more delicate, food-friendly style.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with a translucent, youthful appearance.
Nose:
Fresh red cherry and cranberry lead, followed by floral notes and a touch of spice. Hints of dried herbs and soft earthiness add depth.
Palate:
Light- to medium-bodied with a smooth, supple texture. The fruit is clean and focused, supported by bright acidity and fine tannins. There’s a subtle savoury edge that keeps the wine grounded and balanced.
Finish:
Fresh and gently lingering, with red fruit and a soft herbal note on the finish.
