The Stellenbosch terroir - particularly its decomposed granite soils and cooling maritime influence - gives Merlot both ripeness and structure. At Stellekaya, oak maturation is used to support rather than dominate the wine, resulting in a style that balances generous fruit with savoury detail and ageing potential. The approach leans more towards restraint and texture than overt richness, keeping the wine firmly food friendly.

Nose:
Ripe plum, black cherry, and mulberry lead the aromatics, followed by notes of cedar, cocoa powder, dried herbs, and subtle tobacco leaf. A faint floral lift adds freshness.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with fine, polished tannins and a supple texture. Dark berry fruit sits at the centre, supported by savoury spice, mocha, and gentle oak influence. The acidity keeps the wine focused and prevents the richer fruit profile from feeling heavy.
Finish:
Long and composed, with lingering dark fruit, cedar spice, and a dry, savoury close.
