Description
Located in the limestone-rich Robertson Valley, Springfield Estate is a family-owned winery run by the Bruwer family, descendants of French Huguenot settlers. The region's warm climate, cooling evening temperatures and distinctive soils allow grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and natural acidity.
Springfield's philosophy centres on producing wines as naturally as possible. Guided by their long-standing motto, "Made on Honour", the estate favours minimal intervention in the cellar and believes that great wine is grown in the vineyard rather than manufactured in the winery. Their Albariño tells an unusual South African story. Inspired by wines discovered during travels abroad, the family painstakingly propagated a small bundle of Albariño vines over several years before establishing a vineyard of their own. Today, the wine offers a distinctive expression of this Spanish variety through the lens of Robertson terroir.
Colour:
Bright lemon straw with youthful clarity and subtle golden highlights.
Nose:
Expressive aromas of apricot, nectarine and citrus blossom lead the way, followed by hints of lime peel, white flowers and crushed stone. A subtle saline note adds freshness and complexity.
Palate:
Textured and generously flavoured without feeling heavy. Ripe stone fruit, citrus and pear flavours are supported by vibrant acidity and a distinctive mineral character. The wine carries a subtle maritime salinity that brings freshness and definition to the fruit profile.
Finish:
Long, clean and refreshing, with lingering notes of nectarine, citrus zest and wet stone minerality.
