Spier Seaward Chenin Blanc 2024
Chenin Blanc
Description
Spier, one of Stellenbosch’s most established and environmentally focused wine estates, has long been recognised for producing wines that combine precision, drinkability and a strong sense of place. The Seaward range reflects the cooling influence of the Cape coastline, with fruit sourced from dryland vineyards in the Tygerberg Hills near the Atlantic Ocean.
These maritime conditions allow Chenin Blanc to ripen slowly, preserving freshness while building flavour concentration. The vineyards grow in well-drained soils that naturally limit vigour, helping produce fruit with both texture and intensity.
Winemaker Anthony Kock uses a combination of barrel and stainless-steel fermentation to bring balance to the wine. Around 70% of the wine ferments in older French oak barrels, adding subtle texture and complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a Cape Chenin that feels layered and polished while remaining bright, energetic and unmistakably South African.
Colour:
Pale gold with a bright lemon rind edge.
Nose:
Aromas of ripe peach, apricot and honeydew melon lead the nose, followed by delicate floral notes, citrus peel and a gentle hint of toasted oak spice.
Palate:
Textured and generous without feeling heavy, the palate shows layers of stone fruit, baked apple and subtle citrus. The partial barrel fermentation adds creaminess and depth, while vibrant acidity keeps the wine focused and fresh.
Finish:
Long and clean, with lingering notes of lime zest, peach skin and soft spice.

- Food Pairing : Spier Seaward Chenin Blanc 2024 is particularly good with dishes that combine richness and spice. Try it with smoked chicken, creamy seafood pasta, Cape Malay-style curry, pork belly or spicy noodle dishes. The wine’s textured palate and subtle oak character stand up well to fuller-flavoured meals, while the bright acidity keeps everything lifted and fresh. It also works beautifully with roast chicken or grilled line fish where the citrus notes in the wine echo lighter, savoury flavours.
