Rock of Eye Wines is the personal project of respected Stellenbosch winemaker Coenie Snyman, who spent many years crafting Cabernet-based wines before launching his own label. The name “Rock of Eye” comes from a cooking expression meaning to judge something by feel rather than precise measurement - a philosophy that reflects Snyman’s belief that great wine is guided by experience, observation and instinct.
Fruit for the Snyman Rock of Eye Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is sourced from carefully selected Stellenbosch vineyards, including sites on the Simonsberg, Polkadraai Hills and Helderberg slopes. These areas are known for their well-drained soils, warm growing conditions and maritime influence, allowing Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen fully while retaining structure and freshness. The wine is matured in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity while maintaining a clear expression of Stellenbosch Cabernet.

Deep ruby with a dense crimson core and youthful purple highlights.
Nose:
Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum lead the bouquet, followed by layers of cedar, graphite and tobacco leaf. Subtle notes of dried herbs and spice add further complexity.
Palate:
Full-bodied and structured, with concentrated dark berry fruit supported by firm yet polished tannins. Flavours of cassis and black plum sit alongside savoury notes of cedar and cocoa. Fresh acidity keeps the wine balanced and focused.
Finish:
Long and structured, leaving lingering impressions of black fruit, spice and a gentle oak note.
