Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast Islay Single Malt
Whisky : Scottish
Description
Smokehead is known for producing bold, heavily peated Islay whisky with an unapologetically smoky style. Bottled by Ian Macleod Distillers, the brand embraces a modern, rebellious approach to Scotch whisky while remaining grounded in the unmistakable maritime and smoky character that defines Islay malts.
Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast takes that signature peat-driven style and layers it with the richness of Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The whisky is matured and finished in sherry-seasoned oak, adding depth, sweetness and spice to the powerful smoky backbone. Bottled at 48% ABV and non-chill filtered, it retains a rich texture and concentrated flavour profile that appeals to fans of fuller-bodied Islay whisky.
Appearance:
Deep gold with warm amber highlights.
Nose:
Heavy peat smoke rises first, followed by notes of vanilla, custard, dried fruit and toasted oak. Underneath the smoke are hints of sultana, spice and subtle coastal salinity.
Palate:
Rich and mouth-coating, with layers of oily peat smoke, dark dried fruit and sweet sherry influence. Flavours of barbecued banana, raisin, nutmeg and charred oak develop alongside the whisky’s medicinal Islay edge. The sherry cask character adds sweetness and texture without softening the whisky’s smoky intensity.
Finish:
Long, warming and smoky, with lingering peat, oak spice, dried fruit and a final salty coastal note.

Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast Islay Single Malt
- Food Pairing : Smokehead Sherry Cask Blast pairs particularly well with bold, smoky and savoury dishes. Slow-smoked brisket, sticky pork ribs or chargrilled lamb complement the whisky’s peat intensity and rich sherry sweetness. Strong blue cheese and mature cheddar work beautifully alongside the smoky, salty finish, while dark chocolate desserts with sea salt or espresso notes bring out the whisky’s dried fruit and spice complexity. This is a whisky that suits winter evenings, fire-cooked food and slow sipping.
- Drink before: Unopened, it will last decades. Once opened, its ideal drinking window for peak flavor is 6 to 12 months, though it remains safely drinkable for years.
