Simonsig Rousanne 2015
Roussanne
Description
Simonsig Wine Estate, situated in Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa’s most historically significant family-owned wineries, with roots dating back to 1942. Known for innovation as much as tradition, the Malan family has long explored Rhône varietals like Roussanne, well suited to Stellenbosch’s warm days and cooling maritime influences.
The estate’s vineyards benefit from decomposed granite soils and varied slopes, allowing for balanced ripening and natural structure. In the cellar, the approach is measured and thoughtful - Roussanne is often handled with care to retain its aromatics while building texture, sometimes through lees contact or subtle oak influence. The result is a wine that bridges Old World restraint with South African fruit clarity, particularly as it develops with age.
Colour:
Deep golden straw, showing early signs of maturation in the glass.
Nose:
Layered aromas of apricot, baked apple and honey lead, with hints of dried peach, almond and a subtle waxy note typical of aged Roussanne.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with a rounded, gently textured mouthfeel. Flavours of stone fruit, honey and soft citrus unfold, supported by moderate acidity that keeps the wine balanced rather than heavy. A slight savoury edge adds complexity.
Finish:
Long and mellow, with lingering notes of dried fruit, nuts and a touch of spice.

Simonsig Rousanne 2015
- Food Pairing : Simonsig Roussanne 2015 pairs best with richer, more textured dishes that match its weight and maturity. Roast chicken with herbs or a creamy mushroom risotto works well, as the wine’s rounded palate complements savoury depth. It also pairs beautifully with pork belly or grilled line fish with a butter-based sauce, where its subtle acidity lifts the richness. For a local touch, try it with Cape Malay-style chicken - the gentle spice and aromatic profile echo the wine’s evolved, layered character.
