The Simonsig Kaapse Vonkel Brut 2024 comes from the historic Simonsig Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, where the Malan family has played a defining role in South African wine for generations. In 1971, founder Frans Malan produced the country’s first Cap Classique under the Kaapse Vonkel label, helping establish traditional-method sparkling wine as part of South Africa’s fine wine identity. Today, the estate continues that legacy with a style that balances consistency, freshness and approachability.
Fruit for the 2024 vintage was sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the Western Cape, where warm days and cooling maritime influences encourage ripe fruit while preserving natural acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed and fermented at cool temperatures, with a small portion of Chardonnay matured in older French oak for additional texture. Bottle fermentation and extended lees ageing contribute the fine mousse and subtle brioche character that define the wine’s style.

Light gold with a lively stream of fine bubbles and a bright, persistent mousse.
Nose:
Green apple, citrus zest and white pear lead the aromatics, followed by hints of orange peel, white flowers and delicate biscuit notes from lees ageing.
Palate:
Crisp and refreshing, with flavours of apple, lemon and ripe pear supported by a creamy texture and refined mousse. The acidity is bright without being sharp, giving the wine focus and lift while subtle brioche and mineral notes add complexity.
