Established in the mid-20th century and family-run today, Saxenburg blends a respect for South Africa’s indigenous Pinotage with attentive winemaking, aiming to showcase both the varietal’s signature dark fruit and the underlying soil expression of the Coastal Region. The Private Collection range reflects the estate’s commitment to quality and consistency, crafting wines that are approachable yet capable of rewarding thoughtful drinking.
Colour: Deep garnet-ruby, with youthful vibrancy in the glass.
Nose: A lifted bouquet of ripe bramble fruit, cherry and raspberry leads, supported by savoury notes of tobacco leaf, spice and subtle oak-derived vanilla and cedar.
Palate: Medium-to-full-bodied with generous dark fruit at the core - black cherry, plum and berry compote - balanced by smooth acidity and fine, integrated tannins. Oak influence adds gentle smoke, sweet spice and cedar complexity without overwhelming the varietal brightness.
Finish: The finish is lingering and savoury, with lingering dark fruit, peppery spice and a subtle earthiness that invites another sip.
