Saxenburg PC Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 1.5L
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Saxenburg Wine Estate lies in the Polkadraai Hills of Stellenbosch, where decomposed granite soils and cooling maritime breezes from False Bay create ideal conditions for structured, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon. Under the stewardship of the Basson family, the estate focuses on site-driven wines that balance classic Bordeaux sensibility with New World clarity. The Private Collection range highlights careful fruit selection and thoughtful oak maturation. In magnum format, this Saxenburg Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 evolves more slowly, preserving freshness while allowing complexity to build gradually over time.
Colour:
Deep ruby with garnet edges, slightly more youthful in appearance due to magnum ageing.
Nose:
Blackcurrant and cassis remain pronounced, layered with cedar, tobacco leaf, and graphite. Subtle notes of dried herbs and spice add depth without overt maturity.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with firm yet well-integrated tannins. The larger format has preserved fruit purity - dark berries and plum still lead, supported by savoury undertones and restrained oak. The acidity remains fresh, giving the wine lift and structure.
Finish:
Long and structured, with persistent dark fruit, gentle spice, and a dry, savoury tail.

- Food Pairing : The structure and slower evolution of Saxenburg Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (1.5L Magnum) make it particularly well suited to generous, share-style meals. It pairs beautifully with a standing rib roast or grilled T-bone, where the tannins bind with the meat’s richness while the acidity keeps each bite lifted. Lamb shoulder or rosemary-infused lamb chops also work well, echoing the wine’s herbal notes. For a more relaxed setting, serve it alongside mature cheeses or a hearty mushroom and lentil dish, where its savoury depth and persistent finish can shine without being overwhelmed.
