Saxenburg Guinea Fowl Chenin Blanc 2024
Chenin Blanc
Description
Saxenburg is a family-owned estate on the Polkadraai Hills outside Stellenbosch, an area known for its decomposed granite soils and cooling ocean breezes from False Bay. These conditions suit Chenin Blanc particularly well, giving naturally good acidity and clear, defined fruit. The Guinea Fowl range is made to be accessible and food-friendly, capturing the character of Cape Chenin without heaviness. Grapes are picked to balance ripeness and freshness, with cool fermentations in stainless steel and, in some vintages, a small portion seeing older oak or extended lees contact for extra texture. The style sits comfortably between New World generosity and a more Old World sense of structure – ripe, but not sweet or overdone.
Colour:
Pale to medium straw with a light golden hint, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose:
Yellow apple and ripe pear lead, backed by white peach and a touch of citrus. Subtle notes of quince, honeysuckle and a light, waxy or leesy edge add interest without making the wine feel heavy or oaky.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly rounded texture and lively but not aggressive acidity. The palate follows the nose with flavours of pear, baked apple and soft stone fruit, lifted by lemon and a hint of grapefruit pith. There’s enough weight through the mid-palate to work well at the table, but the wine stays dry and refreshing, avoiding any sticky or overly sweet impression. Overall it feels honest, versatile and straightforward to drink.
Finish:
Medium in length with lingering pear, gentle citrus and a faint savoury, nutty note.

Saxenburg Guinea Fowl Chenin Blanc 2024
- Food Pairing : Saxenburg Guinea Fowl Chenin Blanc 2024 has enough texture for richer dishes, yet the acidity keeps things fresh. It’s a natural match for roast chicken or rotisserie-style birds, where the stone fruit and gentle savoury notes complement crispy skin and pan juices. It also works well with pork chops and apple, creamy chicken pasta or a mildly spiced Cape Malay chicken curry, as the wine’s freshness balances the sauce and gentle spice. For everyday eating, think butternut and feta salad, fishcakes with tartar sauce, or a selection of semi-hard cheeses – the balance of fruit, weight and acidity makes this Chenin a very adaptable partner at the table.
