Saronsberg Seismic 2023
Bordeaux Blend
Description
Saronsberg Cellar is situated in the Tulbagh Valley, surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges that create a unique growing environment with warm days and notably cool evenings. These temperature shifts help preserve acidity and aromatic detail while allowing Rhône varieties to achieve full ripeness and depth of flavour.
The Seismic range reflects Saronsberg’s focus on expressive, terroir-driven blends inspired by the Southern Rhône. The 2023 Seismic combines Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Grenache with a small portion of Viognier, creating a wine that balances dark fruit intensity with perfume and freshness. Individual vineyard parcels are vinified separately before careful blending and maturation in French oak, allowing texture and complexity to develop while maintaining vibrancy and drinkability.
Colour:
Deep ruby with vibrant crimson edges.
Nose:
Blackberry, plum and dark cherry aromas lead the nose, followed by cracked black pepper, lavender and subtle smoky spice. Hints of olive tapenade, violets and dried herbs add complexity beneath the fruit.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with ripe black fruit layered over fine tannins and fresh acidity. Shiraz provides structure and spice, Grenache contributes brightness and red berry lift, while Mourvèdre adds savoury depth and texture. The small Viognier component softens the aromatics and adds floral detail without dominating the blend. Oak influence remains measured, supporting the fruit with gentle spice and texture.
Finish:
Long and savoury, with lingering notes of dark berries, white pepper and dried herbs.

Saronsberg Seismic 2023
- Food Pairing : Saronsberg Seismic 2023 pairs naturally with smoky, savoury dishes where its spice and freshness can shine. Lamb chops on the braai, slow-cooked beef brisket or rosemary-roasted lamb shoulder all complement the wine’s dark fruit and peppery structure. The blend also works particularly well with Mediterranean-style dishes such as grilled aubergine, tomato-based casseroles or herb-crusted pork, where its savoury Rhône-style character can echo the food without overwhelming it.
