Rickety Bridge Paulina's Reserve Cinsault 2023
Cinsaut
Description
Rickety Bridge Estate, rooted in the Franschhoek Valley, draws on a long history dating back to the late 18th century while embracing a modern, detail-focused approach in the cellar. For Paulina’s Reserve Cinsault 2023, the fruit is sourced from a certified Old Vine Project vineyard in Paarl, planted in 1954 - dryland bush vines that naturally yield concentrated, characterful grapes.
The winemaking approach leans towards minimal intervention with a creative edge: whole berries are fermented, and a portion of sun-dried stems is reintroduced to enhance aromatics and texture. The wine is matured in a combination of ceramic amphora and older French oak, allowing purity of fruit to remain central while building subtle structure.
This is a considered, lighter-style red that reflects both site and technique - less about power, more about finesse and detail.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with a youthful, translucent edge.
Nose:
Fresh red cherry and redcurrant lead, followed by floral hints of rose and a distinct fynbos lift. Subtle earthy and spice nuances sit quietly in the background.
Palate:
Light- to medium-bodied with a refined, almost weightless feel. The red fruit profile is precise and clean, supported by bright acidity and fine, powdery tannins. The texture is smooth yet gently structured, showing restraint rather than richness.
Finish:
Clean and lingering, with delicate red fruit and a savoury, herb-tinged note on the tail.

Rickety Bridge Paulina's Reserve Cinsault 2023
- Food Pairing : Rickety Bridge Paulina’s Reserve Cinsault 2023 is particularly versatile at the table thanks to its lighter body and fresh acidity. It works well with dishes like seared tuna or salmon, where the wine’s brightness complements the richness without overwhelming it. It’s equally at home with duck, roast chicken, or pork belly, where the gentle tannins and red fruit lift balance savoury flavours. For a more casual option, try it with mushroom risotto or even dumplings with a soy-based dipping sauce - the wine’s freshness and subtle spice handle both umami and delicate textures with ease.
